Mu’azu Magaji Remanded in prison for calling Ganduje ‘Kano Thief’

A Kano State Magistrate Court sitting in Nomansland has ordered the remand of one Mu’azu Magaji Danbala in the custodial centre for allegedly defaming the character of Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
ALL IN ONE reports that The suspect was accused of making the defamatory statement against the governor and two of his children; Abdul’aziz and Balaraba, on Facebook.
The other accused, Jamilu Shehu, is at large at present.
The two persons were arraigned for alleged conspiracy, intentional insult, inciting public disturbance and defamation of character contrary to Section 97, 114, 391 and 399 of the Penal Code.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) on the October 26, 2021, the chairman of Nassarawa local government area, Auwal Lawal Shuaibu, filed a complain at Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), Kano Command against the duo, both of Sabon Garin Kiru, Kiru local government area, Kano State.
”That on the same date you both conspired and posted on the Facebook platform, the image and portrait of His Excellency, Executive Governor of Kano State, including his children Abdulaziz Ganduje and Balaraba Ganduje, with a bold written on it ‘Barayin Kano’ (Kano thieves) knowing fully well that your action may result to breach of peace within the state and outside.
”You are therefore suspected to have committed the above mention offences”, the FIR stated.
The suspect, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and the defence counsel applied for his bail.
However, the prosecution counsel a principal state counsel Wada Ahmad Wada raised objection on the application.
The trial judge, Aminu Gabari directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to produce the case diary to enable the court determine the probability of granting the bail application.
He ordered the suspect to be remanded in a custodial facility pending the receiving of the case dairy.
The case has been adjourned to November 8 for further mention.
